“Alan Denton from The Results Centre acts as a genuine ‘catalyst for action’ by making
unreasonable requests of me, my team and the business.

As a result we’ve managed to maintain profitability through some very challenging times.
Alan ensures I maintain a focus on results. He helps a great deal by providing clarity on
the key drivers for success, and continually challenges with the question ‘What’s next?’
He has made sure I focus on the major strategic opportunities of the business.

Business mentoring & coaching from The Results Centre (TRC) is a core part of our
business strategy and one of the reasons we delivered a 30% year-on-year sales increase
in our key product category. Alan helped us believe we could achieve anything.

Here’s one example of Alan’s input that I’ll never
forget:

“Business mentoring & coaching from The Results Centre (TRC) is a core part of our business strategy and one of the reasons we delivered a 30% year-on-year sales increase in our key product category. Alan helped us believe we could achieve anything.”
It was late one evening and I was about to go
home. The team and I had been working hard
over the previous 2 weeks on the final year end
accounts. Just as I was packing up my briefcase
one evening my Financial Director came into my
office. With a worried look on his face, the FD
explained that he had discovered a fundamental
issue with the company’s accounts. This would
put a large dent in our forecasted profit level.
Clearly worried for his position, he asked me what
he should do. I told him to go home, not to worry
about it and that we’d talk about it in the
morning.

I sat at my desk and knew I had a dilemma. I
wanted to protect my FD, but needed to be
completely transparent about the error. I had several ideas of how I could handle the
situation, but I really wanted to bounce them off someone else about the best way
forward.

So I rang Alan Denton at The Results Centre (TRC). Alan had been my Executive Coach for
several years and I knew he would be a good, independent sounding board. As an
experienced businessman and ex-CEO himself, Alan has been there before and I trusted
his judgement.

The fact that it was now 9.30pm in the evening didn’t prevent me from giving him a call.
Alan would take the call if he could. Fortunately for me he was free. We chatted through
the issue and various possibilities for almost an hour. Alan knew the Construction
business and he grasped the issue immediately. He got me to talk through the different
options, role-playing as we went along.

By the following morning I had a plan. I updated my FD on my plan. He was mightily
relieved. Then I went to see my Chairman. I debriefed him on the issue and explained
what action I planned to take as a result.

The meeting went extremely well. The Chairman agreed with my assessment of the
situation and plan of action. And if anything, the crisis situation brought the two of us
closer together.

Looking back, Alan helped me bring clarity to the situation, together we drew up a plan of
action, and finally, he instilled confidence in me ahead of the meeting with the Chairman.
An amazing result considering the issue had only been brought to my attention the
evening before.

How do I measure the value that Alan gave me and the company that night? I simply
can’t. Other than to say I’ll continue to use TRC for many years to come and confidently
recommend him to my friends and peers.”
